These beautiful porcelain figurines made by Goebel were inspired by German children in the early 1900s. This Happy Traveller is a boy walking along with his foot up high in front of himself and an umbrella under his arm. This vintage Hummel figurine by Goebel is wonderfully hand-crafted and was designed by master sculptor Arthur Moeller in 1938. The small size is still in production.

Berta Hummel was a warm and caring, child loving woman with artistic talent. She later became a nun and was ordained as Sister Maria Innocencia. Her sketches eventually came to the attention of Franz Goebel of the W. Goebel Company. He got permission from the convent to produce three dimensional porcelain figurines based on her art, and thus she was able to help support her humble convent until her untimely death at age 37 in 1946. The bee that is on most of the figurines Goebel produced stands for Hummel which, when translated from German means bee. Hummel figurines were introduced to the public in 1935.
