This an interesting piece of American protest paraphernalia. In 1998 a group called National Organization for the Repeal of the Federal Reserve Act, or NORFED, issued an alternative form of “private currency” to US federal reserve notes. They issued both medals, made of copper, silver, and gold, and warehouse certificates redeemable for a specified amount of the metals used in the medallions. In 2011 the owner was convicted of  making coins resembling and similar to United States coins. The supply was seized and held during the trial, but released to those who had purchased them before the seizure. The account can be read in more detail here.

This is one of the early issues based on a $10/ounce silver price, as the market for silver led to increased spot pricing, the “face value” increased.

This has nice surfaces with a reflective quality, there are some light hairlines from casual handling as these were considered just silver when  first issued.
