This black bowler’s hat is made by Finchley. It is made mainly of a black beaver felt with leather lining the inside of the rim for comfort. The rest of the lining inside is a stunning maroon fabric. Lastly, it has a wide ribbon going all the way around the hat with a bow on the right side. It also comes with its original hat box, labeling it to be from Dobbs on Fifth Avenue in New York.
The bowler hat is said to have been designed in London in 1849 by London hat makers. This snug fitting shorter hat was designed to replace the top hat which was easily knocked off by the wind or low hanging branches when on horseback. It was in fashion and worn with business attire until about the 1980’s.
