Rubies are known as the king of gems and help make up the traditional cardinal gems which are ruby, amethyst, emerald, and sapphire.
Rubies can range in color from clear to pink to a deep red gemstone. the color coming from the element chromium in the structure of the ruby.
Like many gemstones, the quality of the ruby is determined by the four C’s, cut, clarity, color, and carat. The most desirable and therefore most expensive color of ruby is called blood-red.
Historically, rubies were mainly mined in the Mogok Valley n Burma, but have also been found in Thailand, Afganistan, Colombia, and Australia.
