The Gold Indian Head coin comes in two denominations, the $2.50 quarter eagle and the $5 half eagle. Designed by Bela Lyon Pratt, the Indian Head Gold piece was commissioned by President Theodore Roosevelt in 1904 as he disliked the artistic quality of current U.S currency.
The Obverse of the coin features a Native American Chieftain wearing an ornate feathered headdress surrounded by thirteen stars which represent the thirteen original colonies.
Above the head is the word “LIBERTY” and below are the initials “B.L.P” for the designer of the coin, as well as the date minted. in this case, 1911.
The reverse of the coin features an eagle clutching an olive branch and a bundle of arrows in its talons with the mint mark towards the tip of the arrows.
This particular coin has a nice gold color with full luster and no spots, there are marks in the fields and the slightest of rub on the Indians cheek.
