Today’s coin of the day is actually a set of coins. It is this simple, yet elegant 1989 Canadian Gold Maple Leaf set featuring the 1/10 oz-1 oz coins.
This set was issued to commemorate the 10th anniversary of the release of the gold maple leaf, one of the world’s most popular bullion coins. These are also the purest of bullion coins. The coins are deeply mirrored with heavily frosted devices for the “cameo” effect that is desired by collectors as the ultimate in the minters art. Total gold weight is 1.85 troy ounces.
These coins feature a depiction of Queen Elizabeth III on the obverse, and a maple leaf on the reverse, hence the name, Gold Maple Leaf.
