Today’s coin of the day is a 1917 Type 1 Standing Liberty Quarter with an NGC certified grade of MS 66.
This particular coin is white and has a full luster, an excellent and very popular type coin or for the date collector. Considered by many to be America’s most attractive silver coin, it features a depiction of Lady Liberty on the obverse holding a crested shield in one hand and an olive branch in the other. The reverse features an eagle in flight with outstretched wings.
Designed by Hermon MacNeil, this coin is 90% silver.
Legend has it that the type one of this coin caused public outrage because of the exposed breast shown on the coin, so a second type was made covering it.
