In 1999 the U.S. Mint started a new program for the quarter which turned out to be wildly successful! That program was the U.S. State Quarters. Running from 1999 to 2008 the U.S. Mint released a new state quarter every 10 weeks, which worked out to be five new coins a year. These coins were released in the order that each state ratified the Constitution of the United States. These means that the first set included Delaware, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Georgia, and Connecticut. Each year, the five new coins were released until 2008 when the program was over, but due to the massive success of these coins, the next year, 2009, They released six new coins including, The District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, Guam, American Samoa, U.S. Virgin Islands, and the Northern Mariana Islands. It is estimated that over half of the U.S. population took part in collecting these coins whether it was just casually collecting, or seriously hunting. However there is said to be a curse that goes along with the historical sites and landmarks portrayed on the coins. One example of this is the face of the Old Man of the Mountain falling off Mount Cannon three years after the release of New Hampshire’s state quarter. So whether or not you believe in the curse, come check out the State Quarters we have in stock at tomscoinworld! You won’t regret it!
