The Capped Bust Dime was designed by John Reich and was minted from 1809 to 1837. Originally designed by John Reich, William Kneass, who was the chief engraver for the United States Mint from 1824 to 1840, later made a few changes and improvements to the coin.
The Capped Bust Dime is named after the depiction of a bust of Lady Liberty on the obverse wearing a cap inscribed with “LIBERTY”. The obverse also features 13 stars as well as the date.
The reverse features an eagle with a crest and outstretched wings clutching a bundle of arrows and olive branches in its talons. It also features a banner that says “E PLURIBUS UNUM” and the denomination, “10 C.”
This coin is 89% silver, weighs 2.70 grams, and all were minted at the Philadelphia Mint
The Capped Bust Dime was considered to be a popular coin at the time of its minting and is still a very collectible coin today!
