It takes a hard working person to move to a new country and begin a business from scratch, then turn it into a household name, a sterling silver company that produces many fantastic flatware patterns such as this one. Robert Wallace was such a man, the son of Scottish immigrants, who was also a silversmith. His parents came to the United States in the late 1700. At age 16, Robert became an apprentice to a spoon maker and it was inevitable that when he mastered the craft he would make it his career which he did founding the Wallace Silversmiths. It also was providential that he apprenticed for the most successful flatware and hollowware-producing firm of the time, Meriden Britannia Co, a much sought after apprenticeship. In 1875 the Wallace and Spoons Manufacturing Co created their first three sterling silver flatware patterns.
