We are pleased to offer this lovely Hummel entitled 'Apple Tree Girl' of a girl sitting in an apple tree in the spring.

This Hummel figurine is stamped #141 3/0 for the mold number and is TMK-2 with the full bee mark in blue and the word 'Germany' in black on the opposite side of the base. It is about 4 " tall and it weighs approximately 75.6 grams. The master sculptor for this piece is Arthur Moeller (See below), and there are initials of the painter who colored this beautiful piece. This particular Apple Tree Girl was created between 1940 and 1959, and it has the rarer brown base, also called tree trunk base. By the way, did you know that the word 'Hummel' in German means bumble bee, and that's why Hummels had the bee mark from 1934-1979 and has them again from 2000 to the present?

The figurine is of a little girl with brown hair and the signature orange scarf on her head. Almost all of the non-angel Hummel girl figurines have either orange bows in their hair or an orange scarf. She is wearing a white blouse, green bib top and a blue skirt with white circles and a darker blue dot in each circle. Her apron is yellow, socks are white, and the shoes are orange.

She is all alone, sitting in the crook of a branch in an apple tree with pink flowers indicating that it is in the spring. The name label is missing, but this Hummel is in excellent condition with no chips, cracks, or crazing.

The artist behind the lovely hummel figurines is Berta Hummel, a Franciscan sister called Maria Innocentia. Berta Hummel was born on May 21, 1909 in lower Bavaria where her talent for art was encouraged and nourished by her parents. At the age of 25 she joined the convent of Siessen on Aug. 30, 1934 where she created paintings and drawings that made her famous. Little did her superiors dream that this modest blue-eyed artist who had joined their community would someday be world wide renown.
